Spring has Sprung

Victoria Eggs

Posted on April 20 2013

Jump for joy! A season as great as springtime is better late than never…we thought it would never come, but it finally seems spring has sprung! With blossom on the trees, daffodils and tulips all around, rivers flowing, daisies flowering and lambs a-leaping, everyone ought to have a spring in their step this time of year.

Spring is a very exciting season for animals and plants alike. Take this opportunity to appreciate the beautiful British landscape and wildlife in all its glory. Did you know the British Isles has around 40 per cent of the world's bluebells? And I'm sure you all have a vase full of daffodils on your table right now; I know I have! Look out for the beautifully blossoming magnolia and cherry trees that are so plentiful across the UK. Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to get caught in a shower of blossom petals – much more pleasing than all this rain we've been having.

There are many wonderful places to visit across the UK to experience our daffodils and bluebells in all their splendour:

Ashridge Estate, Hertfordshire

Blickling Hall, Norfolk

Buckland Abbey, Devon

Dunsford nature reserve, Dartmoor

Exbury Gardens, the New Forest

Ullswater in the Lake District (Where Wordsworth was inspired to write his classic poem)

Nature is all around us in Spring. If you just love waking to the morning birdsong, go on a Dawn Chorus Walk: Or if like me you've never seen a badger in the wild before, here's your chance:

Spring is THE season for great fresh produce. If you can bear it after seeing them skip about, lamb is your answer to Sunday dinner in May. Alternatively, salmon is very much in season. If you're feeling more experimental, wood pigeon is also popular during spring (I prefer to just listen to them coo outside my window, very soothing). If you're more into your fruit and veg, try: asparagus; purple sprouting broccoli; spring cabbages; carrots; Morel mushrooms; peas; leeks; spinach; potatoes; and rhubarb.

We have some excellent answers to your spring culinary activities. Get busy in the kitchen with our exciting range of aprons, with matching tea towels, oven mitts and mugs available. Take inspiration from our Airfix Kitchen and English Dinner collections, also available as wallpapers, giving you great suggestions for great British grub this Spring.
